Seattle: Celebrus Lupercalia

I’ll be bringing my typewriter to Seattle to host a Love Letters station at Celebrus Lupercalia, Saturday Feb. 1, 4/8pm-2am at Substation.

~~Lupercalia~~
a pre-Roman pastoral festival; releasing, love, health, bounty, and fertility.
It is a celebration of the fertile spirit, and we honor this with a [paean] to PAN. The holiday was the inspiration for the western holiday of Valentines and a continuation of the ancient celebration of FEBRUA [~= febrile]; which is the root for the name of the month February. It is a light hearted celebration intended to lift spirits and bring about a bountiful spring summer and harvest season. It is also to honor that romantic desire of connection and lust.

A love letter can be to anyone, of any kind of love you wish to celebrate and commemorate. I can aid you as scribe with transcription or creative guidance, and the letter is a keepsake. I previously typed love letters for people at Behind the Veil 2 in Port Townsend and the variety was a delight. As a young person learning about love, I read a volume or two of love letters by luminaries to their romances, and while I realize those were not addressed to me, they did inspire me to cultivate my own sentiments. I’m pleased to be keeping this art alive. Meanwhile there will be rooms and hours of music, a 4-course dinner to delight, and merriment besides.

ACE Comic Con Recap

This was an enormous weekend on so many fronts! It’s hard to go into the depth of the experience without spinning a legend, so I’ll sketch the merest outline.

First, some thanks to Stephen Shamus, the man with the plan! Making the calls to make it all happen, he’s a top rock star getting us all working together. With actress Mandy Rivera.

Here’s a small highlight of conventiongoing characters who took a moment with a Bones of Starlight book:

Here are some well-known entertainers who I had the pleasure of meeting, with thanks to those who made it possible – all of whom personally accepted a copy of my latest novel, Bones of Starlight: Abyss Surrounding.

And here’s your humble author – felicitations to all who now have a new book from me!

Extra Bonus: Pride Weekend! I joined NorwesCon this year to walk in Seattle Pride Parade. I went dressed as a Muse – both in the classical sense of a figure that inspires others to create, and with resemblance to the mechanical muses from comicbook Girl Genius! I bore a scroll painted by Leo Shallat, photo by writer Phil Foglio.

Ace Comic Con Seattle 2019

An advanced note to let you know I’m confirmed as an Artist Alley exhibitor for ACE Comic Con Seattle 2019! This traveling celebrity convention has welcomed me to exhibit in the Chicago & Phoenix areas, and I’m happy to join them as they return to my locality of Seattle, where I first checked them out last summer.

My moment at the top of the creator’s list, by the excellent interview host of the AZ celebrity panels.

And of course, the supporting talent (actually, in a significant way they are supporting the lesser-known exhibitors with their big names and audience draw while people make the most of their day tickets by exploring the entire hall):

Recaps: Great American Diner, Norwescon

GREAT AMERICAN DINER

This swanky West Seattle diner has an open mic hosted by musician and friend Alan Sobel, and this happened to be along my way to Norwescon. I took a spot on the mic for a short book reading, making this the first time I’ve played to a diner (though Cafe Racer for Two-Hour Transport is close). To hardly any interruption and for a sale, it was a fine stop.

NORWESCON 42

Excellent discussions and fabulous times. It is so satisfying being a creative intellectual playtime wonderland host & participant. Many topics enjoyably covered, and plenty of new interest in Bones of Starlight! Welcome. Picture details in captions.
